Preserve and Protect Your Concrete
Sealing Concrete is a Must Do!
Concrete is one of the most durable and useful materials used in construction. But, its main weakness is being a porous material. In untreated/unsealed concrete, the pores act like tubes or canals carrying water and other damaging substances (salt) into the structure causing deterioration problems. Freeze-thaw cycles cause the water to expand when frozen and break the concrete. Salt damages the rebar. Always protect your concrete by keeping it sealed. |
There are penetrating sealers and surface sealers that can protect your concrete.
Surface Sealers are excellent and inexpensive treatment for newer concrete.. Surface Sealers AF005 (WRS) is a methyl siliconate surface sealer that repels (sheds) water, but doesn’t change the appearance of the concrete. AF085 is an solvent based acrylic surface sealer that leaves a shiny surface on the concrete. AF086 is a water based acrylic surface sealer Surface sealers can be applied by the DIY’er and they are relatively inexpensive. Penetrating Sealers Penetrating Sealers are excellent and moderately priced treatment for cracked and deteriorating concrete. They may not be able to stop deterioration that has gone too far, but they will substantially increase the life of most concrete. Crystal Matrix waterproofer penetrates deep into concrete and …. It is best suited for non-moving, slab-on-grade or underground concrete. GelSeal waterproofer is a deep-penetrating sealer….. It is best suited for bridges, parking decks and other elevated structures where some movement is occurring. |
